About Debra Weier

I have long been interested in the mind/body duality and our symbiotic relationship with energy fields around us–how they affect us, and how we help to shape them. It is this invisible world that interests me. I am not really interested in science per se, but in the mystery of the unknown and how it relates to our consciousness, and how our consciousness relates to our health and well-being. I studied homeopathy for many years with many great teachers around the world, and what struck me is how the higher potencies of homeopathic substances actually have nothing physical remaining in them. They carry only an energy footprint of the original substance, which then acts on the body for a healing affect.

I work in more than one medium. Painting, printmaking, books and installation sculpture are my visual forms of communication. Each is influenced by its form. My paintings may look like they are flat and two dimensional from a distance, but their surfaces most often are topographical reliefs. I use these raised surfaces to emphasize forms, create illusions, or to camouflage images and create a secondary composition beneath the primary one. Common motifs in my paintings work in both a macrocosmic and microcosmic way. For example, a star constellation could also be a molecular constellation. Stellar substances pulled together by gravity in space could be organ systems in the body. I feel that the macrocosm and microcosm are closely related.
